Split wage determinations, what are they and how do you manage them?
There are four categories of wage determination namely building, highway, heavy, residential, and heavy. When the Department of Labor determines that a construction project falls under two of the four categories—it makes a split wage determination.
When a project fits into more than one category, it is crucial that the general contractor knows exactly which parts of the project belong under one wage determination and which parts go under the other. Contractors frequently labor under both wage determinations, and if done incorrectly, it can be expensive.
