How do you know if your apprentices are in the Department of Labor’s approved apprenticeship program?

Asking about your apprenticeship program or requesting an apprenticeship program certificate would be the quickest and easiest approach to find out.

Here is an example, and you can see from this scale that this is the DOL-approved program. If you receive an apprentice certificate and it doesn't have that seal on it, ask additional questions. If it does, then that's a pretty good sign that it has been certified by the DOL. It states, "Certified by the US Department of Labor and it contains the apprentices' information on it."

Government-funded construction agencies hire and train apprentices to become highly-skilled and efficient workers. It is one way for agencies to prepare their workforce in order to produce individuals who have adequate on-site experience. Additionally, apprentices are able to receive progressive wage increases, classroom instruction, and a portable, widely renowned credential.

According to the United States’ official site, apprenticeship.gov, about 40 registered apprenticeship programs in different fields, including the construction industry.

So, when you're on construction projects and it only allows for apprentices and approved DOL programs, you'll know your apprentices are in a DOL-approved program.
